OMA RD - 1 - RECAP

UTV Racing kicked off the weekend @ the OMA opening round. With a field of 5 Yamaha UTV's on the starting line, they started the weekend off with a roll... *see newly posted images under photos. Ken Cornwell (UTV Mod) took the win over Todd Gilham (UTV Stock) by only 3 seconds! Don't miss out on the next UTV race held in Decatur, AR... Definitley a spectator sport!

ATV Event has welcomed newcomer Andy Lagzdins (Pro-Hon) to the OMA Series, Andy took 1st at his OMA debut, See Andy's Race Report on ATV Riders.com for more! No OMA stranger, OMA 3-time Champ, Rob Zimmerman (Pro-Hon) recovering from a broken ankle, stepped up onto the 2nd level of the podium, just over Derek Schrock (Pro-Yam). OMA has made it official ATV Pros will have a Pro practice set up Sat. morning! Amateurs may sign up for this practice for a $10 fee.

Congratulations to Andy-Rob-Derek, along with the MAXXIS & MOOSE RACING Podium Sweep!

North & South battle again... Illinois' Dustin McDonald (Suz-100cc 14-15) is back for the season & kicks off the 07 season with an overall in the 100cc event. Texas' JD Reed (KTM) took first in 100cc 12-13 and second overall in the 100cc event. Congrats to Dustin & JD!

The Sunday Pro M/C class consists of gangs from all over... From Illinois to Texas - from Oklahoma to Kentucky and so on! Many newcomers chasing the Parts Unlimited series purse for their cut of $20,000! From well known names like Suzuki's JJ - Yamaha's Mullins & Hawk - Summers' Parts Unlimited team Scott Summers & Paul Whibley - Fun Mart's Jason Thomas & Brian Garrahan. Let's talk about the newcomers... 6 Texans would line up Sunday afternoon. Texan Matt Crouch (See his Race Report) has round up some fellow Texans to make the drive and support his OMA series. Cody Beck # 48 KTM, out of Fort Worth finished 17th at his OMA debut... Cameron Ishmael #16, out of Bedford, came in just behind Cody by 2 mins. ... don't count these pups out just yet... their young upcomers & OMA tracks are very different from what the Texans are adapted too. Mr. Crouch will testify to that! Aaron Wegner (Yam # 854) out of Dick Burleson's backyard, Traverse City-MI, headed south for his OMA debut also. Aaron with a finish time of 2:23:53 took 6th place, obviously Aaron has a knack for tight/technical tracks! Congrats Aaron! Toby Atkins (Yam #24) out of the U.S. Military Service can now focus on a race career! We commend Toby for his service! and look forward to seeing him at the OMA events!

Kailub Russell (KTM #103)... all we can say is...
he's.. 1... Fast... KID!

Kailub dropped many jaws as he raced down the track! Watch for this kid's bright future! He may be a pup.. but he's already running with the big dogs!

Another racer everyone is talking about is Jordan Ashburn # 927. Open B class, 17 years old, finish... 13 Overall! Who is Jordan... he's one fast kid, that is shocking people with his talent and speed.. so much so.. that it's hard to believe his results! Out of Cookeville, TN Jordan is mounted on a KTM, this is Jordan's first year off the 85cc and onto the big bike. Being his first year, yes maybe he could run the A class, but patience is a virtue, and he's young, so his father has opt'd him to run in the B class and make this year.. a year of learning and patience.... I don't think he's listening Dad... he's just catching up and running with the A's anyways.... Keep up the good work and results Jordan!
